Best School in Town?...Mustard Seed Academy is 4 Years Old.

Primary 1 has active, happy students
_Mustard Seed Academy in its Third Year.....Top School in Town? Back
in February 2011 Tom Sheridan joined Joe and Elaine Griswold in Lukaya
to witness the opening of the new academic year at Mustard Seed
Academy--its third. New
faculty members joined the veterans in welcoming 355 eager students.
The new "baby class" (3-year-olds) numbers thirty-five, and comes from
diverse backgrounds. The over- whelming majority are from poor homes
that cannot afford to send their children to school without sponsorship
help. Many of these children still are looking for sponsors. But some
new children now come from parents who can pay, and MSA collected more
school fees by far than ever before. Included in this group are
children of local town
officials and educators, and the son of Adam Matovu, a member of the
Tree of Life Ministries Board of Directors. The latter group of
students is testament to the fact that MSA has, in four short years,
developed a reputation as the best in school in town. There were, in
fact, over 100 applications for 35 seats in the baby class. Many
parents were very disappointed.
MSA does have a reputation in the area, but is it really deserved? In June 2011, a competition was organized among 30 area schools to determine who had the strongest programs and best prepared students. Mustard Seed Academy ended in second place overall, despite the fact that our programs are housed in temporary buildings in the absence of a permanent campus!
How this current achievement really translates will be better known early 2013 when the first MSA graduates receives their grades from the national exam. But we are encouraged by some anecdotal reports, especially from a Tree of Life Ministries social worker who reported to Head of Education John Robert Inyalio that the students at MSA are much better English speakers and more confident about asking and answering questions than students at any of the schools she has visited. We rejoice in the hard work of our faculty and students.
The oldest class at MSA completed Primary 7in November, and we expect all will advance to the new Mustard Seed High School in February 2013. Five of the star students took the P-7 national exam for practice in November 2011, and all of them pronounced the exam "Simple!" We hope their scores will reflect it. One P-6 student was the top scoring child on the Roman Catholic catechism exam in the entire District!
