A Ugandan Organization for Ugandan Projects.....

TOLM Leaders John Robert Inyalio (lf) and George Kateregga work with RPU Executive Director Elaine Griswold
To support projects in Uganda, Real Partners Uganda must work through a partner organization in that country.  In 2008 we joined with a Ugandan leadership team to establish Tree of Life Ministries (TOLM), a non-profit Company Limited by Guarantee. Subsequently TOLM applied for and received official status as a Community Based Organization (CBO) in Kalungu District.  TOLM is now applying for permanent status as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO).  In simple terms RPU plans projects with the leaders of Tree of Life Ministries and provides funding to carry them out.  For example, TOLM operates Mustard Seed Academy (Nursery and Primary School) and is responsible for managing its funding and personnel.  This arrangement is very important in building local leadership capacity, and involving the community in the projects.

With the long term goals of developing a self-sustaining learning community that can generate its own resources, RPU is trying to engage TOLM in a variety of activities that build leadership capacity and generate income for the projects.

George William Kateregga.....General Manager of TOLM

                            George William Kateregga, General Manager
George is General Manager for TOLM.  He oversees the entire project in Lukaya.  His responsibilities include financial management and reporting, oversight of campus development, and directing the Sponsor A Child program.

He became an orphan himself with the death of his mother and desertion of his father.  He was supported during his school years and through his university education by World Vision.  Having completed a Bachelor's degree in Business with honors, George returned to the Lukaya area where he was born, taught school for a while and in 2004 became a major organizer of our early educational projects in Lukaya.  With the formation of Tree of Life Ministries, George worked as assistant project manager until his appointment in November 2010 as General Manager.

George is a person who has a smile on his face most of the time. He is extremely intelligent and resourceful, and brings a remarkable knowledge about the people, politics, and economics of the Lukaya community.

George has a great heart for the children of Mustard Seed Academy.  He knows every one of the over 350 children and their family situations.  We depend upon him to help identify which kids are most in need of sponsorship.  He oversees the TOLM social worker and has served as a primary contact with the Sponsor A Child coordinator here in the US.

John Robert Inyalio.....Head of Education for TOLM  and Headmaster

John Robert Inyalio, Headmaster of MSA
Robert leads a team of 12 teachers at Mustard Seed Academy where he acts as both head administrator and a classroom teacher.  He excels at both jobs, and we have had the privilege of working closely with him in both capacities.  He came to Lukaya from a eastern region of Uganda with a different tribal language but has learned Luganda--the local language--very quickly.  He is a strong proponent of English language training and his efforts, along with those of his teachers, have paid off handsomely.  Mustard Seed children are already known for learning English early and speaking it better than kids of any other school in the area.

In February 2010 three retired educators from the US traveled with us to Lukaya.  Their activities, including classroom observations and opportunities to co-teach with the MSA staff, were organized by Robert. All three volunteers agreed that the experience was life-changing and that Mustard Seed Academy has extremely talented and hardworking teachers who really appreciate the cooperative and supportive atmosphere at the school.  A great deal of the credit goes to Headmaster John Robert Inyalio.

This gallery includes most of the full-time employees at Tree of Life Ministries. The majority work at Mustard Seed Academy, and can take credit for the superb healthy and academic progress of MSA students.  All model the love of Christ in the way they work together and minister to the students.  Click on the top left photo to see full-sized pictures with captions, then click the arrow to advance.
