Why Uganda?
Uganda is a small African country in East Central Africa bordered by Kenya, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, and Tanzania. 70% of its people live in extreme poverty. It is a country of children. Half of its population is under age 15.
Although primary education is free, only about 25% of children complete grade 7. Uganda ranks 163 out of 187 countries on the Human Development Index. Life expectancy is only 55 years. Unemployment is very high. Due to the AIDS epidemic, there are many orphaned children--and many overburdened families. Real Partners Uganda works to give such children a chance to obtain an education and feel loved and supported. |
